Daniel 3:18--"But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up."

How often do we hear that if we do what's right, and trust in God, He will deliver us? This principle is true, and is found throughout the Bible, but this is not the principle Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood upon when commanded to bow to the golden image Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

The king was told that they would not bow to his image, and did not worship the gods he served. He asked them to verify this, and then gave them a second chance to bow. He told them that if they did not bow, they would be thrown into the fiery furnace, and then he asked who their God was that should deliver them.

They responded that their God was able to deliver them, and if He chose, they would be delivered; however, they said that even if He chose not to deliver them, they still would not bow.

They did not pray, "God, deliver us and we will praise you." They prayed, "God, we praise you." They knew God so well that they knew He was worth worshiping whether or not He delivered them.

Do you worship God for Who He is, or what He does?
