My Mouth Shall Not Transgress
Luke 6:46—"And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?"
Psalm 17:3—"Thou hast proved mine heart...I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress."
A friend of mine did a devotional on following Jesus Christ, and he put Luke 6:46 into these words:
"If we do not do what the Lord commands, we have no right to call Him Lord."
I was looking up another verse that night, and I opened my Bible to Psalm 17:3. The last part of the verse jumped out at me. I claim to be saved. I claim to call Jesus "Lord." For my words not to be lies, I must follow what the Holy Spirit commands me to do.
Some common things we know to do, might even claim to do, but do we truly follow them to the extent that we believe God would desire us to?
- Reading our Bibles—Do we read it every day? Do we read it enough every day?
- Study—2 Timothy 2:15. What do you know about God or Christianity from your own study time?
- Pray—Repeatedly God commands us to pray. Are you a prayer warrior?
- Surrender—Complete and full surrender is our reasonable service according to Romans 12:1, and yet most of us hold something back when it comes down to the wire.
